New import and export feature for research trials

Data exchange in field trials
After the prerequisites for connecting smatrix to trial management systems were successfully created in the last release, the current release 2.3 offers you a new helpful feature for importing and exporting trial structures. From now on, you can import your trial structure conveniently from an Excel spreadsheet.

New version – new features

smatrix 2.3: What's new?

  • Import of the trial structure from an Excel or CSV file
  • Tooltip with additional info
  • Exported trials are labeled

Import of the trial design

Until now, the trial structure could only be defined in smatrix itself, with some limitations.

As of version 2.3, the trial structure can be imported from an Excel or CSV file, and thus the numbering can now be freely selected. Thus, from now on, the field trial technician can easily import his field book - with randomized structures and asymmetric trial structures - into smatrix.

It is still possible to name the trial units in up to 3 hierarchy levels.

In addition to the free numbering of the test units, further columns can also be read in, which can be displayed in smatrix as a tooltip. Details on this can be found in the manual.

  • Additional info in tooltip for each trial unit

Import & export of trial structures

Our latest releaseof smatrix agroscience for Android 2.0 offers you new possibilities in managing the data collection. With the import and export of trial assessments from one device to another, you can now centrally configure the trials and forward them on to your colleagues. This eliminates the need for configuration of the same experiment on each device before collecting data.

Data exchange with our interface DCI not only saves the user valuable time, but also creates new connections in the workflow of a field trial technician.

Feel free to contact us about how the new interfaces can support you in your work process. We are interested in finding out which software you use for planning, managing and evaluating trials.

How does the new data exchange feature work?

Our new version of smatrix agroscience for Android 2.0 includes the interface feature. Thanks to this newly developed interface "DCI" (Data Collection Interface), you can easily import assessments or forward them to other users now. The graphic above shows how it works.

The data transfer works with a file-based exchange of a JSON file. That includes the trial structure, traits, value ranges and pronunciations of all terms.

More information about the interface can also be found in our smatrix agroscience for Android manual and in our FAQ.
