Designed to make work easier: That's smatrix - data collection by voice. All you need for professional data collection is a headset with microphone. And your voice, of course.

Can I use smatrix without a headset?

We would like to advise against using smatrix without a headset, as the recording via the internal microphone of the devices is not sufficient for flawless speech recognition.

Headsets can be connected to your device via a USB-C cable as well as via Bluetooth. smatrix supports both connection types. It is less recommended to use headsets with 3.5 mm jack plugs, since these plugs move in the jack and can cause crackling noises.

What features should I look for in a headset?

Regardless of the choice of headset, there are two other utilities that also have an impact on speech recognition:

1. Foam windscreen for the microphone

2. Correct positioning of the microphone (please refer to the headset's instructions, usually a finger's width away from the corner of the mouth).

Which Android device do you need?

The choice is yours. smatrix for agroscience basically runs on any Android device with operating system version 8 or better. We recommend Android 10 or newer for optimal performance.
